ABOVE: We sailed into historic Cartagena and enjoyed it for months. The city was safe to walk in day and night and we roamed the narrow streets of the old 1600 vintage town enjoying the decorated balconies that hung out over the narrow streets. Sir Francis Drake, the pirate as the Spanish tell the story, conquered Cartagena then lost the fabled city. History oozed everywhere. The fort was begun in the 16th century and is massive.
