The Warao people lived in houses built in the Macareo River. Just poles driven into the mud and a floor and roof: no walls. Here an Indian Is wriggling a pole into the mud to build a house which took a day. |

The Waro would paddle out to trade woven baskets for produce they needed rice clothing. These were noisy intense sessions. |

They took us into a village away from the river but through the almost liquid delta. Wewalked intrepidly, on logs for a mile. Yvonne eating the fat grubs these people thrived on. |

Maracucho joined us for a few days and was a great guide finding birds minutes before we saw them. He wanted to join us for the rest of our voyage as we were old and needed him |
